Conyers' grandson says congressman won't seek reelection amid allegations of sexual harassment
Rep. John Conyers announced that he will not be running for re-election, as the now embattled politician suffers more allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him.
His brother’s grandson, Ian Conyers, confirmed the news early Tuesday morning before Conyers officially announced his plan to retire.
Ian Conyers is expected to run for the seat.

“He is not resigning. He is going to retire,” Ian Conyers told the New York Times. “His doctor advised him that the rigor of another campaign would be too much for him just in terms of his health.”
The news of Conyers’ expected decision comes as he has been hit with yet another claim of sexual harassment. Elisa Grubbs, the cousin of Marion Brown, said that her cousin’s claims of being harassed while working as a staffer were true and that Conyers harassed her, too.
The statement, released through lawyer Lisa Bloom, said that Conyers referred to Grubbs and Brown as the “Big Leg Cousins” and that he once came out of the bathroom completely naked in front of her. She also accused him of sliding his hand up her skirt while they were seated at the front row in church.
“This is the first of several affidavits I will be releasing describing allegations that you sexually harassed staffers and covered up complaints,” Bloom tweeted. “My client Marion Brown asks only for an acknowledgment and apology.”
