Michelle Obama shares childhood photo ahead of memoir release

Our forever First Lady was a gem from the start.

We can’t wait for Michelle Obama to release her memoir, Becoming, in November and she’s teasing us with never-before-seen childhood photos of herself with her parents, Marian and Fraser Robinson.

“Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing some photos and memories from my book, BECOMING. My father, Fraser, taught me to work hard, laugh often, and keep my word,” she captioned the photo she shared on social media. “My mother, Marian, showed me how to think for myself and to use my voice. Together, in our cramped apartment on the South Side of Chicago, my family helped me see the value in our story, in my story, and in the larger story of our country.”

Her memoir is due out on November 13 and will likely give us all more information about how our Forever First Lady grew up to become the inspirational icon that she is.

“Writing Becoming has been a deeply personal experience,” she told PEOPLE in February. “It has allowed me, for the very first time, the space to honestly reflect on the unexpected trajectory of my life … how a little girl from the South Side of Chicago found her voice and developed the strength to use it to empower others.”

We know Becoming will offer words of wisdom from this national treasure, and we’re guessing her story will inspire us all.

“My parents weren’t wealthy…They weren’t fancy folks. But we had a good childhood, living in a little, bitty apartment,” she said last November, according to Hartford Courant.

“What girls and young people need… is consistent love and support and the belief of somebody out there that they’re worthy. I had that.”

Even though she’s no longer in The White House, Michelle Obama hasn’t stopped working hard to make our world better. In March, she teamed up with Refinery 29 to spread some love to her home city of Chicago and around the world for International Women’s Day.

“I wanted to reach out and connect with girls around the world—including in Chicago—to hear their stories and to share some of mine,” Mrs. Obama told Refinery29. “Working to empower girls across the globe is my passion, and through the Obama Foundation, it will be something I work on for the rest of my life. I hope readers everywhere will be inspired to join me in this effort.”
