Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan is under fire for anti-America chant

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan is under fire for an anti-America chant during his trip to Iran on Sunday, Fox News reports.

The 85-year-old controversial pastor has been frequently criticized for his hate speech and bigoted statements about gays, white people, and Jewish people. He spoke to law students at the University of Tehran, and said: “America has never been a democracy.” He led a “Death to America” and chanted “Death to Israel” at the conclusion of his talk, according to Iranian news agencies.

“Today, I warn the American government that sanctioning Iran is a big mistake,” he said at a meeting with the Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council, Mohsen Rezaei.

The right came out swinging. Donald Trump Jr. slammed Farrakhan and Democrats on Monday saying:

“When will the Democrats disavow this guy? Answer: NEVER.”

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz said “all decent people” should condemn the Nation of Islam leader and took issue with Farrakhan’s tweet that he was anti-Semite but instead “anti-termite.”

“Nazis use the word ‘termites’ to dehumanize Jews and accuse them of destroying everything good about the world,” Dershowitz explained on “FOX & Friends.”

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, known as America’s Rabbi, also took aim at Farrakhan.

“A new low for arch Jew-hater Farrakhan,” Boteach tweeted. “Who has heard of an American going to a foreign country and chanting ‘Death to America?’ Where is Bill Clinton who appeared with him recently, and Barack Obama, photographed with him, and Cory Booker to condemn him?”

Last March, Republican Congressman Todd Rokita called on the House of Representatives to condemn the Nation of Islam leader and putting pressure on several House Democrats who have had ties to him.

Rokita introduced a resolution citing Farrakhan for “promoting ideas that create animosity and anger” toward the Jewish community and condemning “all manifestations of expressions of racism, anti-Semitism, and ethnic or religious intolerance.”

Some speculated this was in response to a speech Farrakhan gave in which he stated, “White folks are going down. And Satan is going down. And Farrakhan, by God’s grace, has pulled the cover off of that Satanic Jew and I’m here to say your time is up, your world is through.”

“There is no place in our civil discourse for this clear anti-Semitism and hate for another group of human beings,” Rokita said in a statement. “I urge my House colleagues to join me in condemning Louis Farrakhan’s hateful and anti-Semitic attacks, while also reaffirming our nation’s commitment to our Jewish neighbors and our greatest ally, the nation of Israel.”

There have not yet been a vote scheduled on the resolution.
