New Horizon Church of New York is sponsoring a new program called “Faith Fights Diabetes.” The program is meant to educate the community of Harlem about the symptoms of diabetes and different ways in which this decease can be prevented. The New York Daily News reports that research shows that African-Americans, Hispanics and American-Indians are twice as likely to get diabetes than Caucasians:

For those people – and if you live in Harlem, Spanish Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood this column should be of particular interest – let’s list the important part of this story first – the symptoms.

If you have: frequent urination, unusual thirst, extreme hunger, unusual weight loss, extreme fatigue and irritability, frequent infections, blurred vision, cuts and or bruises that heal slowly, tingling and or numbness in the hands and or feet, and recurring skin, gum, or bladder infections, you may have diabetes.

Only a doctor can confirm if you are among the 25.8 million Americans with diabetes, but know this: a estimated 7 million Americans have the ailment and don’t know it.
