NFL Hall of famer Michael Irvin feared he might have cancer, but he’s all clear

Crisis averted for ex-NFLer Michael Irvin who is cancer-free.

Michael Irvin has learned that he was cleared and doesn't have throat cancer as he had feared.


 

Sometimes it’s best to get the official word instead of worrying yourself silly.

At least that’s the message NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin learned after he was cleared of throat cancer that he feared he may have, The Washington Post reports.

Last, the former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver sent social media buzzing with a message saying he feared that he might have throat cancer due to his family history. Irvin then asked for prayers ahead of taking medical tests.

Thankfully, Irvin’s has been cleared.

Irvin announced on Instagram: his test results “have come back 100% clean.”

“Thank you God for continuing to answer Prayers and Thank you ALL for Praying. I spoke with Dr. St John at UCLA Medical and she has informed me that all test have come back 100% clean. NO CANCER!!!!!! It is impossible to express my family and my appreciation for the overwhelming out pour [sic] of love, support and prayers. I was on my threshing floor dealing with the stronghold of fear. You all covered and encourage me. To God be the Glory.”

 

Irvin 53, took to Instagram in an emotional post after he underwent tests at Ronald Reagan Hospital in Los Angeles.

He said he decided to see a doctor, given his family’s history with throat and other cancers.

In addition to his father, Irvin also lost a brother to stomach cancer in 2006.

The news had “visibly shaken” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, according to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Jones was attending an owner’s meeting in Arizona when he was informed of the tests Irvin is undergoing.

“I appreciate you guys telling me,” Jones said, according to the Star-Telegram. “I will try to talk to him immediately. It’s the first I have heard of it. That is very concerning. Very.”

Irvin spent 11 seasons in the NFL, all with the Cowboys as a wide receiver. He rushed for nearly 12,000 career yards and had 65 career touchdowns. He has also been a sports analyst with the NFL Network and founded the Playmakers Academy, which focuses on young athletes.

He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.
