Earlier this year reports emerged of a new Atlanta-based reality show that would focus on the lives of preacher’s wives.  Today, TLC, the network that recently brought us the hit series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, has released a trailer of The Sisterhood, which is basically The Real Housewives of Atlanta with an element of church.

According to an exclusive preview granted to People, the show will take “viewers behind the pews and into the lives of some of Atlanta’s “first ladies,” as preacher’s wives are often known in the evangelical community.”

In the beginning of the trailer two of the wives set tone for the premise of the show, “A first lady has to appear perfect because she sets the standard for the congregation. But if you pull back the curtain and see us for who we truly are you’d be shocked.”

In the preview footage we see the wives working out, arguing, getting tattoos, and talking openly about sex and STD’s. At one point one of the wives even opens up about smoking crack prior to becoming a first lady. “This was the house where I smoked my first crack pipe at,” says one “sister.”

Another part of The Sisterhood trailer shows a preacher giving his wife a pair of handcuffs as a gift, prompting her to say: “people don’t expect a preacher and preacher’s wife to have a good sex life.”

True Entertainment, the production company that brought us the Real Housewives of Atlanta, is reportedly producing the new reality show.

“We are excited to work with TLC to profile the lives of these strong-willed women,” said Steven Weinstock, president of True Entertainment. “With most praise in religious communities directed towards male preachers, we are thrilled to give these remarkable ladies the spotlight they crave and deserve.”

The Sisterhood premieres January 1, on TLC.

This show is sure to generate a lot of buzz amongst black churches. Will you be tuning in?
