Pittsburgh Steelers send food to election staffers counting ballots

The crew took to social media to show off the boxes of catered food delivered on Wednesday night

The Pittsburgh Steelers took a break from serving passes to serving meals to those working hard to count ballots in Pennsylvania’s Allegheny County.

The organization sent catered food to the warehouse where election staffers were diligently counting ballots as the country awaits the voting results of Pennsylvania in the presidential election, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The crew took to social media to show off the boxes of food delivered by Cooked Goose Catering Company of Oakdale, Pennsylvania.

Officials for the team reportedly reached out Wednesday and asked if they could have food delivered to the warehouse for election workers. Sources say by 7:30 p.m. the food had arrived.

“Thank you, ⁦@steelers, for your kindness. Chicken, rigatoni, veggies, rolls, pies and more! We’re grateful for the wonderful food from @TheGooseExpress,” the county exclaimed in Twitter.

County spokeswoman Amie Downs told the publication, “It’s very nice, very appreciated,” she adds, ” We’ve been working very long hours, so for them to have thought of us is very kind.”

Poll staffers have been trying to tally up the mail-in ballots in the battleground state. Days after the election, several states are still counting ballots that would declare which nominee will pick up their respective electoral votes.

While it’s not clear who from the NFL organization came up with the thoughtful gesture, Steelers linebacker Vince Williams reacted to the news on Twitter with the praying hand emoji above a post by a photographer who claimed to be at the location at the time of the delivery.

“At the Allegheny County ballot counting site here in Pittsburgh, I can report that the Pittsburgh Steelers are buying dinner for all the workers here this evening.”

There is a lot riding on Pennsylvania and its 20 electoral votes. If Joe Biden takes the state he would almost certainly win the election, as analysts say without it President Trump cannot win reelection. The counting of votes continues in Arizona, Georgia, Alaska, Nevada and North Carolina.
