Playboy playmate charged for taking nude fat-shaming photo at gym

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

A former Playboy playmate has been arrested for invasion of privacy after secretly snapping a picture inside an LA gym and posting it online to fat-shame the woman in the image.

“If I can’t unsee this then you can’t either,” Dani Mathers wrote on the Snapchat image of an unidentified 70-year-old woman who was naked at the gym and overweight.

After the post hit social media, Mathers was arrested and charged with invasion of privacy in addition to being banned from LA Fitness.

“I’m disappointed that she was charged with any type of violation,” Mathers’ attorney, Tom Mesereau, told TMZ. “She never intentionally violated anyone’s privacy and never tried to break the law at any time.”

However, Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer said that what Mathers had done was “humiliating” and had long-term consequences.

“It mocks and stigmatizes its victims, tearing down self-respect and perpetuating the harmful idea that our unique physical appearances should be compared to air-brushed notions of ‘perfect,’” Feuer said in a statement.

“What really matters is our character and humanity. While body-shaming, in itself, is not a crime, there are circumstances in which invading one’s privacy to accomplish it can be. And we shouldn’t tolerate that.”
