Rochelle Aytes talks TLC biopic: 'There wouldn't be a TLC without Pebbles'

theGRIO REPORT - During an interview with theGrio, Rochelle Aytes talked about her role as Perri 'Pebbles' Reid in the upcoming TLC biopic....

Rochelle Aytes is best known for her roles in White Chicks and Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion. But these days the 37-year-old actress can be seen steaming things up on ABC’s new drama Mistresses.

“I compare [Mistresses] to Desperate Housewives and Sex and the City. It’s kind of a combination of the two,” Aytes said during an interview with theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon.

Up next, Aytes will star alongside Lil Mama, KeKe Palmer, and Drew Sidora as Perri “Pebbles” Reid in the highly anticipated TLC biopic, Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story.

The biopic will tell the story of TLC’s rise to fame in the 1990s and how they became bonafide stars and with classics including “Waterfalls” and “Creep.”

The movie will also showcase the tumultuous relationship TLC had with their manager Pebbles, who discovered the R&B trio in 1989. After selling 11 million copies of their 1994 album CrazySexyCool, TLC filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 3, 1995 amid claims that Pebbles was mismanaging their money.

“I felt that it was very important to bring dignity to this role. She [Pebbles] is a human being. It’s not like playing someone that you can just make up,” Aytes said… “She may have been looked at as a villain, but she was also very strong. She was determined. She said that she was going to make a female singing group and that they were going to be huge and she did it. There wouldn’t be a TLC without Pebbles.”

Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story premieres in November on VH1.
