Schoolboy Q channels Snoop’s ‘Doggystyle’ on debut

To say Top Dawg Entertainment has been on the rise over the past two years would be an understatement.

The California collective has been putting out quality music for some time now, and while Kendrick Lamar was snubbed at this year’s Grammys, that hasn’t slowed down their ubiquitous presence in hip-hop.

Schoolboy Q, one quarter of Black Hippy, would agree.

Q grew up in the ’90s when hip-hop as a genre was robust with talent that represented several different ways of life.

Influenced by the Wu-Tang Clan, 50 Cent and others, when asked about what type of energy he’d be bringing in with his debut, he compared it to a West-Coast classic.

“It reminds me of Doggystyle ,“ Schoolboy Q said of upcoming album Oxymoron. “Nothing sounded like Doggystyle when it came out. It was raw.”
