Lucas Holliday, a cashier working at Dollar General, recently went viral when he sang Maxwell’s “Ascension,” and Maxwell decided to take his appreciation for the cover a step further than most.
So, Maxwell surprised Holliday on “Good Morning America” with an invitation to join him on stage for his King and Queen of Hearts Tour with Mary J. Blige.
“You sound unbelievable,” Maxwell said. “I wanted to personally invite you on stage at my Detroit show this Friday…Congratulations! You have a sick amazing voice.”
Maxwell also took to Twitter to continue singing Holliday’s praises, saying, “he’s doing more for me than he even realizes.”
