SOQUEL, Calif. (AP) — Officials say students at a California high school have been suspended for wearing clothing associated with the white supremacist movement and suspected involvement in a rash of graffiti scrawls that includes swastikas.
Santa Cruz City Schools Superintendent Gary Bloom says Soquel High School administrators decided late Wednesday to suspend about five students and ban them from the prom and graduation. No other details are being released.
Investigators say the students stood together wearing white shirts and bandannas during a senior class photo session, and they are believed responsible for white supremacist graffiti at the campus in recent months.
Bloom tells the Santa Cruz Sentinel that a white pride criminal gang is recruiting in the community and school officials must protect students. A letter went out to parents on Thursday.
