Rapper Tech 9 faced sexual assault charges with a minor before his death

A thick cloud of disgrace covers the once shinning legacy of a Philly battler

According to court documents that have recently come to the public's awareness, Philly rapper, Tech 9, was in the midst of a sex scandal involving minor(s) before he died in late March.

According to court documents that have recently come to the public’s awareness, Philly rapper, Tech 9, was in the midst of a sex scandal involving minor(s) before he died in late March.

Complex reports that the battler rapper, whose real name is Akhiym Mickens was facing charges including “unlawful contact with minor – sexual offenses, corruption of minors – defendant age 18 or above, criminal attempt – indecent assault without consent of other, harassment – subject other to physical contact, indecent exposure, criminal use of communication facility, photograph/film/depict on computer sex act – knowingly depicts on computer, photo, etc., and child pornography.”

Fans notice that something was going on when he took a brief hiatus from his hit internet show, Champion, last fall. Though his colleague Jay Blac continued the series with guest judges, no real reason was given as to why Tech was not across the table from him.

He was also facing charges of indecent assault, which details a person less than 16 years of age and another indecent assault without consent of other. Those charges were dismissed.

According to the Philly Voice , the charges were linked to allegations that “involved the daughter of a woman [Tech 9] was dating.”

Documents say that an arrest and complaint was “cited” on Jan. 5 and 6 and bail was posted on Jan. 7 for $50,000. Tech 9 was listed to have a “scheduled formal arrangement” on March 25 and a “pre-trial conference” on April 16.

Although The Philadelphia County District Attorney’s Office did not get back with the outlet immediately for an additional statement, the artist’s birth date does match up with the date that’s credited in the documents.

The Philly native was respected in the rap game, with many notable rappers speaking out on his death on social media last month. Some included Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, Lloyd Banks, Denzel Curry, and Lupe Fiasco.

Meek Mill wrote on twitter saying:

All artist acknowledged the rapper’s life before the news of his charges began circulating.
