TGT, the R&B supergroup consisting of Tank, Ginuwine and Tyrese, is ready to bring emotion back to R&B.

The trio have been active in the industry since the late 90’s and believe the genre isn’t as strong as it used to be.

“It’s lost its passion,” said Tyrese about the current landscape of R&B. “I don’t feel or believe nothing that these cats are singing about.”

The trend of fusing EDM and techno with traditional R&B is a part of the problem in TGT’s opinion. It takes away from the creativity of R&B by trading it in for exposure on the pop music charts.

TGT: Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank defend their TV debut

“I miss the times when R&B singers were actual entertainers when they performed live,” recalled Ginuwine. “If I wanted to pay to see you just hold the mic’ in an arena and not dance or move around, I would have just stayed home.”

During the late 90’s – early 2000’s, R&B music was overflowing with quality music that ranged from “one hit wonders” to current legends.

When asked if anyone from the current generation would have found success 15 years ago, TGT cited Chris Brown, Anthony Hamilton and Fantasia Barrino.

“Chris Brown would’ve great back then. Great,” Tank stated.

Ginuwine agrees with Tank while nodding his head. He and Chris Brown are both known equally for their voices and dance moves. Though he tips his hat to Brown for being the better performer now, Ginuwine would’ve welcomed the challenge back in the day.

“He would have been great competition.”
