One of hip-hop’s greatest bands are collaborating with a rock music legend.

The Roots are linking up with guitarist Elvis Costello for a project that will be out by the end of the year.

The unlikely partnership was developed through The Roots’ day job as the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

“It was really love at first sight,” said Questlove, drummer of The Roots about working with Costello.

After three separate appearances on Fallon, the two musical acts felt it was only right to capture their chemistry on wax.

Questlove went on to tell Billboard that the project originally was supposed to be a few songs but that number began to swell to about 20.

With this group venture, along with their fourteenth studio album, & Then You Shoot Your Cousin, dropping in the near future, 2013 is already looking strong for The Roots.
