When Scandal makes it’s highly anticipated return to TV this fall, Olivia Pope & Associates will be one gladiator short.

Last month, days after Columbus Short’s wife publicly alleged he threatened to kill her and then himself with a knife, the actor on the hit ABC series released a statement saying he was leaving Scandal.

“At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today,” said Short in an official statement released by his publicist.

This weekend during an interview with Chris Witherspoon for MSNBC’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner special, Scandal star Tony Goldwyn – who plays President Fitzgerald Grant on the show – weighed in on Short’s departure from the show.

“None of us ever know what our future is,” Goldwyn said. “We’re really sad to see Harrison go but Columbus is an incredibly gifted guy with a huge talent and he’s gonna have a huge career in whatever he does. I’ll miss him because he’s amazing.”

In shifting his thoughts to another Scandal star, Goldwyn also weighed in on Kerry Washington, who plays the show’s leading lady and his love interest.

According to recent reports, congratulations are in order for Kerry Washington and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha. TMZ reports the couple welcomed their first daughter, Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha, on April 21 in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Goldwyn, who has two children, says he’s reluctant to give Washington any parenting advice but is confident she will thrive in motherhood.

“The thing that Kerry and I talk about a lot is she’s a woman who does it all and does everything she does well, and with great passion and humility and enthusiasm,” he said. “I talk to her a lot about, ‘you really can do all that you need to do and want to do,’ and she’ll be an incredible mother. She’s really such a role model for so many people.”
