The Topeka Capital- Journal reports that C. E. “Sonny” Scroggins, the event organizer intended the look-alike contest to draw attention to rallies in support of overturning “Stand Your Ground” laws such as the one in Florida.

Trayvon Martin’s parents have also been actively seeking to repeal similar laws around the country through a foundation they formed, Change for Trayvon.

At the Grand Cushinberry Birthday Celebration, during which the award is to be present, an anti-racial profiling specialist, Timothy Dwight Smith is also scheduled to speak.

Scroggins stated in a news release: “Vigilante justice has no place in the United States or Kansas.”
