Tracy Martin to speak at 1st-ever meeting of the Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys

theGRIO REPORT - The Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys will be holding its first-ever meeting on Wednesday and they have lined up a special guest.

The Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys will be holding its first-ever meeting on Wednesday and they have lined up a special guest.

Tracy Martin, Travyon Martin’s father, is scheduled to appear today to offer opening remarks. The main topic of the meeting will focus on “The Status of Black Males: Ensuring Our Boys Mature into Strong Men.”

Martin will address this topic and will undoubtedly refer to the death of his 17-year-old son, who is the center of a firestorm that has sparked across the nation.

Other notable speakers will also be in attendance, including MSNBC host and Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson , former Congressman and NAACP President Kweisi Mfume and David J. Johns, the head of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, according to a press release.

Each speaker is expected to address one of the three phases of growth, including childhood, teen years to manhood.

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and Congressman Danny Davis will lead the meeting, which comes less than a week after President Obama delivered a personal response to the nation addressing the George Zimmerman trial and the issues of race and racial profiling.

The event is will take place from 3-5 p.m. in Washington D.C.
