Teen girl found dead in pond after leaving prayer at mosque

Nabra Hassanen had reportedly been walking home with her friends after they had spent the night in prayer for Ramadan at a mosque in Virginia.

A 17-year-old Muslim girl was found dead in a pond on Sunday.

The teen, Nabra Hassanen, had reportedly been walking home with her friends after they had spent the night in prayer for Ramadan at a mosque in Virginia. According to the Washington Post, the group had stopped at an IHOP before heading home when they were apparently confronted by a motorist.

Hassanen’s friends ran to the All Dulles Area Muslim Society, but she was left behind. Her body was later found in a pond, along with a baseball bat.

Darwin Torres, 22, has since been arrested in relation to Hassanen’s death. He was arrested by police after a traffic stop in which police said that he was driving suspiciously.

Police have not yet indicated whether or not Hassanen’s murder is being investigated as a hate crime.
