We are here for this: Idris Elba as first Black James Bond

Director Antoine Fuqua recently hinted that the time could be soon.

Could it be that a Black James Bond is on the horizon? And could Idris Elba be the Bond who fits the bill?

That just might be the case or so says director Antoine Fuqua, who recently revealed that he had a heart-to-heart with Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli and said “it is time” for a non-white actor to assume the legendary Bond role, the Independent reports.

Elba has been in the crosshairs to tackle the iconic role, and Fuqua’s conversation with Broccoli concluded that “Idris could do it if he was in shape. You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that.”

We are here for this.

Though the Internet ceremoniously cast Elba as the unofficial “Black” James Bond, the British actor has a better idea of who should play the spy legend: a Black woman.

When asked about the possibility of him stepping into the role of 007, back in January Elba distanced himself from the project. Instead, he said, the franchise should go in an entirely new direction.

“Are we interested in having a Bond character other than being a male?” he told Variety. “Could be a woman, could be a Black woman, could be a white woman, but I think, that character, everybody would like to see it have — do something different with it, why not?”

Well if that’s the case, he still has to wait until Daniel Craig finishes his movie as the sexy spy.

We’ll wait!

The next installment of Bond will be played by Craig in the upcoming Trainspotting movie, written by John Hodge and directed by Danny Boyle. Eon productions heads Michael G Wilson and Broccoli called the director “exceptionally talented” in a statement.

”We couldn’t be more thrilled than to bring the next 007 adventure to the big screen, uniting the incomparable Daniel Craig with the extraordinary vision of Danny Boyle.”
