39 Colleges and Counting: High school senior sets school record for acceptances

Jordan Nixon set a new record for receiving the highest number of college acceptance letters in her school's history and is still waiting on more notifications

Jordan Nixon, a 17-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia can choose between 39 colleges after she was accepted into all of them and awarded $1.6 million in scholarships.

Jordan Nixon, a 17-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia can choose between 39 colleges after she was accepted into all of them and awarded $1.6 million in scholarships.

A senior at Douglas County High, Nixon told CBS 46 that she intended on finding a diverse college that offered International Business as a major when she applied to more than three dozen schools. She was surprised to learn that every last one of her picks also wanted her, according to PEOPLE Magazine.

“The crazy thing is, I’m still waiting on decision letters, but I was not expecting that at all,” Nixon told CBS 46.

The teen has until May 1 to select a college.

Nixon’s accomplishments are even more impressive considering she set a new record at Douglas County High School for receiving the highest number of college acceptance letters in school history, according to CBS 46.

“We’re so happy for her because she does put in a lot of due diligence into applying for these schools,” Nixon’s parents, Angelia and Arthur Nixon, told CBS 46, according to PEOPLE magazine. They describe their daughter as intelligent, well-rounded and heavily involved in extracurricular activities, CBS 46 reported.

“I am one of the captains of the varsity cheer team at Douglas County. I’m in Chick-fil-A Leader Academy. And, I also participate in DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America),” Nixon told the news outlet.

In total, Nixon applied to roughly 50 schools and is still opening up acceptance letters.

“It’s shocking, each and every time, you’re taken aback every time you open one,” Nixon told CBS 46.

Nixon now hopes her story helps other students dream bigger and shoot for the stars, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

“I wanted to challenge myself,” Nixon told the outlet. “That was the most important thing for me, just to show others anything is possible and that anyone can accomplish it too.”
