A good Samaritan helped a struggling nursing student with two jobs in a big way when he overheard her conversation at a car dealership.

Kayla Cooper’s attempt to buy a car took an unexpected turn when she tried to purchase a vehicle but soon learned she didn’t have enough cash for the down payment, The Daily Mail reports.

Cooper, who had been saving up to purchase her own ride, had been working two jobs and borrowing a car from her family and friends to get back and forth to school at San Diego City College, and her job as a cashier at 7-Eleven and a parking lot enforcer.

She entered Auto City in El Cajon, California with her sights set on buying a used Toyota Corolla but she didn’t have enough money.

However, a stranger sitting nearby, Dan Laguardia overheard Cooper’s distressing situation and wanted to do something about it. Cooper left the car dealership in tears knowing that if she didn’t secure her own car by the end of the month, she’d have to let one of her jobs go.

So Laguardia who was at the dealership to trade in his 2005 Scion xB for a BMW asked the car salesman to call Cooper back so he could make her an offer she probably wouldn’t refuse.

“I really wasn’t trying to be nosy, but I heard her sales guy say, “Can somebody help you out? Do you have a family member or friend?” That’s when I tuned into the conversation,” he told Good Morning America.

Cooper came back and Laguardia gave her a big surprise, his 2005 Scion was hers to keep for free.

“The car had more value to her than it did for me trading it in,” Laguardia told KGTV.

“She just couldn’t believe it. She said, “Can I give you a hug?” and I said, “Of course.”‘

Cooper was shaking as Laguardia handed her the car’s keys and signed over the title in her name.

On Facebook, Seoul Fields, who works at Auto City, shared a picture of the good Samaritan gifting Cooper the car. It has been shared thousands of times.
