“He gave me a present on his birthday. How could I say no?” Lemon captioned the photo which showed two bowtie-shaped dog tags that were engraved with the words, “daddy will you marry papa?” The couple’s pups, Boomer and Barkley, wore the tags, and the photos also revealed the pair’s rings.

Malone, a real estate agent, asked Lemon to marry him on Friday while the two were celebrating Malone’s birthday, according to Lemon. An excited Malone also posted a photo on his IG account with the words: “He said YES!”

Lemon and Malone first met in New York several years ago. During a CNN live broadcast on New Year’s Eve in 2018, they were seen smooching on air to help bring in the New Year.

In 2011, in his book Transparent, Lemon first came out as gay.

At the time, he told The New York Times that it was a personal choice to come out and that everyone needs to do it “at their own speed.”

“People have to do it at their own speed. I respect that. I do have to say that the more people who come out, the better it is for everyone,” Lemon told the Times. “I think if I had seen more people like me who are out and proud, it wouldn’t have taken me 45 years to say it, to walk in the truth.”

In response to Lemon’s IG post, journalists, celebrities and friends joined complete strangers wishing the couple all the best.

Tamron Hall wrote: “Congratulations Don and Tim!!!!”

Ricky Martin also congratulated the couple: “yeahhhh!!! So happy for you guys!”

Wolf Blitzer said: “Congrats! I’m so happy for you. This is great news.”

Actress Tatum O’Neal chose to write in although she doesn’t know Lemon or Malone personally. “Omg stop. So happy even though you don’t know me.”

And actress and model, Bridget Moynahan wrote in: “Wow! Incredible. Congratulations.”

Lemon’s show can be seen each week night at 10 pm. The host joined CNN in 2006.
