Anthony Anderson’s main focus has been ABC’s Black-ish for the past few years, but he’s coming to Netflix for a hip-hop coming-of-age drama titled Beats, Deadline reports.
The film pairs Anderson, a down and out former music manager-turned school security officer, with Khalil Everage, 17, who plays a young musical prodigy who shares with him a mutual love of hip-hop.

Beats takes place on Chicago’s South Side and puts the Windy City’s rap scene on display, bringing in Young Chop, Dave East and Dreezy to the film’s musical formula.
Joining them are Orange Is the New Black‘s Uzo Aduba, The Red Line’s Emayatzy Corinealdi, and Paul Walter Hauser from YouTube Red’s Cobra Kai series.

The film is directed by Chris Robinson who was behind The New Edition Story and 2006’s ATL.
Beats debuts on Netflix June 19th.
