Black Marines

Detroit’s Lee Newby Jr. is one of the city’s first African American Marines and state lawmakers honored him on for his 100th birthday.

“It’s a good idea to keep in the minds of folks the way things used to be and the way they are now,” said retired First Sgt. Jack McDowell.
