Singer Chris Brown is publicly apologizing for beating his former girlfriend, Rihanna.

Brown released a two-minute video on his web site, telling his fans that he’s sorry for his behavior.

“I wish I had the chance to live those moments again but, unfortunately, I can’t. I cannot go into what happened and, most importantly, I’m not going to sit here and make excuses. I take great pride in me being able to exercise self-control and what I did was inexcusable. I am very sad and very ashamed of what I’ve done,” he said in the video.

Brown was arrested in February on charges that he tried to push Rihanna from a car and repeatedly hit and choked her.

Brown pleaded guilty to a charge of felony assault and faces sentencing on August 5th.

He’s expected to serve five years of probation and perform six months of community service.
