Spike Lee continues to chronicle the city of New Orleans in his new film, If God is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise.
The new HBO documentary is a follow-up to 2006’s emmy-award winning When the Levees Broke.
Lee’s latest film picks up New Orleans five years since Hurricane Katrina devastated nearly everything in its path. It also looks at the latest disaster to hit the Gulf Coast — the BP oil spill.
Lee told theGrio he is still frustrated with the progress New Orleans has made since the storm but is encouraged by what he calls the city’s strongest asset — the residents.
“The spirit of the people,” Lee says. “If you got the spirit, you can take almost anything.”
Lee’s film is divided into four parts, which will debut tonight and tomorrow on HBO.
