Three children remain hospitalized Tuesday, just days after they became the victims of a violent murder-suicide that claimed the life of their mother at the hands of her boyfriend.

Evelina Jack was pregnant with her fifth child when she was gunned down by 37-year-old Mark Glinton Saturday night at their home in North Miami Beach.

Three of Jack’s four children were also shot in the rampage but police and family members said the only reason the fourth made it out unscathed is because his older brother took a bullet for him.

Family members said Quentin Jack, 13, who was shot twice and is paralyzed from the chest down, jumped in the way as Glinton took aim at 2-year-old brother Christian.

“He threw his body over my two-year-old nephew and he took a bullet to his spine so we’re kind of concerned about that,” said Antoinette Jack, Evelina’s sister.

The two other children shot are 14-year-old Ashleigh, who was shot three times but is in stable condition, and 9-year-old Xavier, who was shot in his stomach and side and remains in critical condition along with Quentin at Holtz Children’s Hospital.

Even though he was shot and bleeding badly, Xavier managed to get out of the house to seek help for his brothers and sister.

“The nine-year-old, after he had been shot, ran to the neighbor’s house to basically save the family,” said Det. Mike Stein with the North Miami Beach Police.

Police said Glinton, a security guard, was abusive toward Evelina and that her children had even witnessed him beating her and saw him pull a gun on her several times.

“I didn’t know any of this was going on inside that household, when I talked to her everything seemed fine,” said Christian’s father, Ricardo Filsaime.

Evelina Jack had been an associate at Publix before the tragedy unfolded.

“She was a beloved associate who was very hard working and popular amongst all of her co-workers,” read a statement from the company. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and especially her children as they recovery from this tragic event.”
