From NBC Philadelphia

The Internal Revenue Service is auditing the city’s school district, focusing on issues including reimbursement of expenses and payments to contractors, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The newspaper reports the audit also focuses on use of district-owned vehicles and credit cards in 2009.

A school district spokeswoman confirmed the audit and described it as random and routine. The IRS declined comment to the paper.

The district is the state’s largest with a budget of $3.2 billion. School officials have asked the city for at least $75 million in additional funding as it tries to plug a $629 million budget deficit.
