A man involved in a gun battle with police is in critical condition Friday morning. Philadelphia police say the suspect broke into his ex-girlfriend’s North Philadelphia home just before midnight. She called 9-1-1 and the suspect fled.

Around 12:30 a.m., police stopped a man fitting the suspect’s description at Broad Street and Glenwood Avenue. The man then pulled out a gun and shot at the officers. The officers returned fire.

The suspect was hit at least three times, according to authorities. The man ran from police until he collapsed from his injures. He was transported to Temple Hospital where he remains in critical condition. No officers were injured in the incident.

But the activity didn’t end there. While on the crime scene, a suspected drunk driver plowed through police barricades. He was immediately ordered to step out of his vehicle. The driver was arrested without incident.
