Today we posted a story written by the Huffington Post on theGrio about a tweet Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Raymond posted expressing her feelings about closeted gay men.

In the tweet, from November 20th, Tameka said that straight men living undercover gay lives, should identify themselves with wristbands in an effort not to deceive straight women.

“I really feel that the ‘undercover’ gay guys that LOOK str8 should wear a bright wristband. Cuz this isnt really fair. Timbs, caps, vests?” Tameka tweeted.

Tameka has received backlash from the gay and straight communities this morning as her wristband comments have circulated around the web.

In an effort to set the record straight Tameka communicated with theGrio via a series of messages on Twitter.

“I was out at a restaurant with girlfriends and some guys were flirting with us. One asked my girl for her number, Tameka said. Then more men came in and we discovered that they were in face gay.”

“I made a joke and said they should have on wristbands, because we would have never guessed they were actually gay.”

“I wasn’t speaking about gays in general. It was to guys that mislead women.”

Tameka said that she does not want the gay community to be mad at her, and wants her followers to understand that her Twitter post about the wristbands was a joke.

The 40-year-old mother recently filed a petition against her ex-husband Usher Raymond, and is currently battling for full custody of their two sons and additional child support. Tameka filed for sole custody in response to a petition for full custody that Usher first filed against her in January.
