Burger King has taken heat for making Mary J. Blige look foolish in a “chicken-wrap” ad (the R&B songstress is still upset about it) — but their biggest competitor, McDonald’s has had its moments, too — though arguably, a generation earlier. The London Daily Mail dug up this “groovy” (or not) poster from a 1976 ad campaign whose sales pitch was: “you don’t have to get dressed up, and there’s no tipping!” Thankfully, the sales pitch from most marketers to black consumers has improved since the Disco era.
