Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

The third time’s the charm — after two previous artists fell through, hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean will perform in Tampa, Florida during the Republican National Convention as the headliner of a non-partisan gala. Jean, formerly of The Fugees, will perform at the private concert fundraiser for Got Your 6 and Lifetime Television’s “Your Life. Your Time. Your Vote.” campaign, on August 29th.

The organizations had originally booked country legend Willie Nelson for the RNC gig, but he eventually pulled out, though Nelson stated he still supports the “Got Your 6” campaign. Next to be booked was Randy Travis, whose arrest on drunk driving charges in Texas scuttled that plan.

Their third choice, Wyclef, will be joined by Cindy and Meghan McCain, respectively the wife of former Republican presidential candidate John McCain, and the couple’s daughter. Meghan McCain has also distinguished herself as a Daily Beast columnist and the author of America, You Sexy Bitch. They will share the stage with a number of “Republican governors and members of Congress,” according to a press release.

Got Your 6 is a non-partisan organization dedicated to helping military veterans reintegrate into civilian life. Lifetime Television’s “Your Life. Your TimeYour Vote.” campaign encourages women to vote and to run for office. The two organizations have united to hold non-partisan concerts during both the Democratic and Republican conventions (the events are not affiliated with the conventions.) Rapper Flo Rida will perform in Charlotte during the Democratic National Convention.

The Tampa concert will raise money for Got Your 6, which partners with non-profit organizations to provide support to veterans in the areas of housing, jobs, family and health. “Got Your 6” is military jargon for “having another person’s back.”

TheGrio.com’s parent company, NBCUniversal is one of several entertainment partners for Got Your 6.
