Oscar winner Jamie Foxx is in talks to play the villain Electro in the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man.

According to Variety, Foxx is negotiating to play the character, who gets his super powers via a lightning strike.

Although the film’s studio, Sony, has yet to make anything official, Fox himself hinted at his upcoming role with a Halloween tweet.

“Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well,” he said.

Huffington Post reports that “Electro first appeared in a 1964 Spider-Man comic. His inclusion in the new Spider-Man universe was alluded to at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man.”

When asked about the rumors, Spider-Man director Marc Webb was coy. “I think Jamie Foxx … I think he’s electrifying,” he said, but he would not comment further.

If Foxx scores this role, it will be his next biggest part following his highly-anticipated leading role in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, which opens this Christmas.
