There has already been one Oscar-nominated star cast in the highly anticipated reboot of the musical Annie and now unconfirmed reports say that Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx is in talks to take on a role in the film.

The classic play is being recreated and delivered to the silver screen with Jay-Z and Will Smith acting as producers and 9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis starring in the title role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Foxx — who earned award recognition earlier this year for his role in Django Unchained — is rumored to play Benjamin Stacks, a character similar to Daddy Warbucks.

Meanwhile, the actor is currently filming his role as the villain Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and has yet to release an official statement on any ties to Annie.

While buzz is growing around Foxx, producers and fans are looking forward to Wallis taking on the role of the spunky orphan.

“We love Ms. Wallis,” Jada Pinkett Smith, one of the play’s producers, told theGrio in a video interview.

“I think that this is going to be a very powerful film in its own right. We’re very excited to have her on board for this project.”

The musical is planned for release during the 2014 holiday season.
