George Zimmerman has signed up to participate in a celebrity boxing match, he confirmed on his Twitter account.

The match is expected to take place on March 1 and is being organized by former boxing professional Damon Feldman.

TheGrio spoke to Feldman Friday morning who said he was approached by Zimmerman’s business associate who expressed Zimmerman’s interest in taking part in the boxing challenge.

“He told me he always had a passion for boxing and wanted to do a match,” Feldman told theGrio.

Feldman, who has organized over 55 celebrity boxing fights, confirmed that an opponent has not yet been chosen but that there has been deep interest from several celebrities including Lindsay Lohan’s father and rapper The Game.

According to TMZ, which was the first to report the news, the rapper said “I will beat the f–k out of him,” adding, “I would not be boxing for me.  I’d be boxing for the legacy of Trayvon Martin and for his family.”

The rapper — who received a tattoo of Martin on his leg after a jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in the killing of the 17-year-old teen —  told TMZ:

“I would box him to knock him out,” adding, “I would definitely take pleasure in it.  It’s legal, and I want to show him you can solve your disputes without a weapon.”

According to Feldman’s Twitter account, the boxing promoter has published several tweets asking updating his followers on the status of the match and suggesting other opponents he would like to recruit:

“Who do you want to see George Zimmerman fight right now it looks like the rapper the game really wants it,” he tweeted.

“Over 3,700 emails to fight George Zimmerman we need great draw opponent @thegame says he wants it.  We may do this in Tampa Florida,” he wrote.

Feldman told theGrio that he is expecting this game to be a big match and whoever decides to take on Zimmerman is “going to be an instant star.”

“It’s going to build controversy and people like to see that,” he added.

As for Zimmerman’s experience in the ring, he told Radar Online, “Boxing isn’t new to me. It’s something I had picked up well before the incident and it’s something that I liked, I enjoyed.”

Zimmerman reportedly plans to donate any proceeds to charity.
