Who is Nicole Beharie?
Nicole Beharie, 29, shined on the big screen alongside Chadwick Boseman last year in the Jackie Robinson biopic 42, and these days she’s leaving audiences speechless as the star of Fox’s supernatural police drama Sleepy Hollow.
Beharie was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. She attended high school in South Carolina and is a graduate of South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts & Humanities.
Why is she on theGrio’s 100?
Following Sleepy Hollow’s premiere last September, the pilot caught fire, taking Twitter and Tumblr by storm and giving Fox the highest-rated show in prime-time and its highest-rated fall drama premiere in seven years.
During an interview with theGrio, Beharie talked about her groundbreaking role on Sleepy Hollow.
“It’s a real risk,” she said. “It’s a crazy story, right? Fantasy, but based in modern times. There are flashbacks, retelling history, monsters, the whole shebang. It’s not a vein that I’ve gone down before – mind you I love that kind of stuff – but it’s not something I’ve done. I feel like it’s completely out of the box, not something people would necessarily expect.”
She adds, “I’m always looking for challenges in my career.”
What’s next for Beharie?
On January 20th the critically acclaimed two-hour season one finale of Sleepy Hollow aired. The series continues to captivate viewers and fans are eagerly anticipating the return of Beharie for season two.
