Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Is David Letterman’s retirement announcement all part of an Arsenio Hall conspiracy?

The iconic late night host hinted that this was the case while joking about the impending departure of his competitor on CBS.

Hall, who has recently returned to the airwaves, has seen two of his former foes, Jay Leno, and now, David Letterman, call it quits.

“Man, they are dropping like flies! First Jay, now Dave…” said Arsenio.  “My plan is working perfectly!

Later, on a more serious note, Arsenio paid tribute to Letterman, who’s been a fixture in late night comedy for 32 years.

“David Letterman is a legend,” he said. ”I have had the unique pleasure of watching him as a fan and competing against him as a fellow host. He has set a standard for comedy in late night that I strive to achieve every single day. When I decided to come back to late night and compete against Dave, I received a phone call asking me to be a guest on Dave’s CBS show for the first time. Dave put me on his show 72 hours before I debuted.”

“Dave showed that the only thing that matches his comic genius is his class,” he added. “Late night might fill his time slot but it can never fill the void he will leave behind. He is simply the best.”

David Letterman will be stepping down from him CBS late night show in 2015. There is no word yet on who his replacement will be.
