Rudy Rasmus is a global humanitarian, cultural architect, and author of the new inspirational book Love. Period.: When All Else Fails; however, the Texas native is best known for being Beyoncé Knowles’ pastor.

Beyoncé, Tina Knowles, Mathew Knowles, and Kelly Rowland have been long-time church members of St. John’s United Methodist Church in downtown Houston, where Rasmus serves as co-pastor.

Rasmus’ Miss-A-Meal campaign was featured on Beyoncé’s latest tour and helped to effectively impact communities around the country.

In 2008, Rasmus married Beyoncé and Jay Z, and he says the key to the longevity of their marriage centers around three major principles: trust, respect and love.

In an interview withe theGrio, Rasmus said he has not yet given Beyoncé and Jay Z any marriage advice but is confident that their marriage is stronger than ever.

“They’re friends,” Rasmus said. “Their relationship is healthy and life has been good.”

Beyoncé recently came under fire for some of the explicit lyrics and videos on her latest album, but Rasmus defended his longtime parishioner against critics.

“Beyoncé is a consummate entertainer, and an entertainer entertains,” Rasmus said. “Is the entertainer’s entertainment an expression of that person’s life and reality? I don’t know. But I know when Arnold Schwarzenegger straps on a 30 caliber cannon and blows planes out of the sky, nobody asks the question, ‘Arnold why are you walking around for those 90 minutes in that suit with that 30 caliber cannon? What kind of person are you?’ I don’t think I’ve heard that question. But at the end of the day, Arnold Schwarzenegger is an entertainer.”

“I think a person has the right to earn a living in the way that they are gifted, and I think that she is tremendously gifted and I think she expresses that gift in some amazing ways. I think the world would be void an extreme talent if we silenced her or censored her.”

Rasmus’ new book, Love. Period.: When All Else Fails, is now available in select retailers nationwide.
