Gayle King: I did not say ‘I’m gay’ on-air

theGRIO VIDEO - CBS News refutes the claims that Gayle King said 'I'm gay' this morning during a live broadcast of 'CBS This Morning' ......

This morning, several celebrity gossip sites, including TMZ and Perez Hilton, published story headlines questioning whether or not CBS This Morning co-anchor, Gayle King, came out as gay during the live morning broadcast. The soundbite in question comes in at 0:18 into the TMZ video.

King was joined this morning by her co-anchors Charlie Rose and Nora O’Donnell in a conversation about choosing the right mate.

At one point King joked with Rose that she and he would make an ideal match, but then said “I’m just kidding,” followed by what TMZ reports as, “I’m gay.”

CBS News sent theGrio.com a transcript from today’s broadcast of CBS This Morning, which states King’s dialogue as “I’m just kidding…. I’m – I’m kidding.”

A spokesperson for CBS News added, “She was stuttering as she was saying ‘I’m kidding.’”

TMZ later caught up with a very upbeat Gayle King outside of the CBS News studios. “If I was gay, I would tell you,” she said. She said she simply stuttered but will look at the tape later.
