A Virginia high school football player died from a hit to his head, according to preliminary findings from the medical examiner.

Park View High School’s Jamond Salley took a hard hit during a kickoff play against Brunswick Friday night.

Salley was able to walk off the field, but his health quickly declined, reports NBC 12.

During halftime, he lost consciousness and began suffering from seizures. First responders took him to Community Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

According to the Brunswick Sheriff, the preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma to the head.
