Confederate flag-flying driver runs over 4-year-old black boy, attacked by witnesses

REPORT - An 18-year-old known only as Ryan was assaulted by up to ten witnesses after he accidentally hit a 4-year-old African-American boy.

An 18-year-old known only as Ryan was assaulted by up to ten witnesses after he accidentally hit a 4-year-old African-American boy.

According to Ryan’s 13-year-old girlfriend Brook Schumpf, Ryan was driving her around on Monday night when he accidentally ran over Damajae Winn. Schumpf said that Ryan then jumped out of his car to check on the boy but was assaulted by witnesses who had seen the accident.

“All of a sudden, this kid ran out in front of us and he hit the bumper. I swear they came out of nowhere. I didn’t see any of them, and they were there in, like, two seconds,” Schumpf recalled.

When between three and ten people then began kicking and punching Ryan, she remembered thinking, “Oh God, he’s going to die. He’s going to die.”

She went on to claim that Ryan was likely attacked because he used to fly the Confederate flag from the back of his truck, though he had not been flying the flag that day because it had previously been stolen. She insisted that Ryan had not meant to hit the boy and that it was not meant as a racist attack.

“His mom kept screaming at me ‘you’re a racist b—-‘ and just yelling at me and all these guys were coming at Ryan and hitting him,” Schumpf recalled.

Both Ryan and Damajae were taken to the hospital, and police have confirmed that Damajae suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
