Elisabeth Hasselbeck thinks the Black Lives Matter movement should be declared a hate group.

The Fox News host made the controversial remark during a segment of Fox & Friends in which Hasselbeck was discussing a Texas deputy who was killed by a black man, reports Talking Point Memo. She then blamed the Black Lives Matter movement for the death.

During the segment Kevin Jackson, who is conservative black writer, called the movement “nonsense” and said that black lives are in danger from the police not because of racism but because black families cannot stay together. His remarks prompted Hasselbeck to say, “Kevin, why has the black lives movement — the black lives matter movement — not been classified yet as a hate group? I mean how much more has to go in this direction before someone actually labels it as such?”

“Well they should do it, but unfortunately it’s being financed by the leftists,” Jackson replied. “Ironically it’s people that have nothing, really no concern at all about black lives.”

Of course, as soon as the remarks went live, the backlash began, with many taking to Twitter to express their outrage at the comments. Most were directed at Hasselbeck herself, but many also took aim at Fox News, saying that it was Fox that should be labeled a hate group.

Hasselbeck responded to the backlash on Twitter Tuesday afternoon:
