Regina King wins first Emmy Award, says Taraji P. Henson tipped off she was going to win

Regina King opens up about receiving her first Emmy Award from Taraji P. Henson...

Regina King just won the first Emmy of her career last night, for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for her role in American Crime, and her friend Taraji P. Henson was the one to present the award to her.

“That Taraji and Terrence presented me with this is pretty special,” Regina said in her heartwarming acceptance speech.

In her speech, she also drew attention to her adorable date: her son, Ian. “The fact that I get to share this night with you, the best date in the house. You make being a mother my greatest accomplishment. Cheers.”

After the win, King admitted that she was still just shocked and excited about the win, and she also revealed that she had been a bit tipped off about winning by Henson.

“It feels a bit surreal. I’m still digesting,” she said. “I really wasn’t expecting it so, it’s so special that Taraji gave it to me.”

But, King said, it was Henson’s gasp that gave away her win.

“I was stunned,” she said. “Because that’s my girl, when she [gasped], that’s when my heart started beating fast. ‘She’s gotta be doing that for me, it’s gotta be me!’ And I had no idea she was gonna be doing that category!”
