The city of Chester, South Carolina unanimously voted late last month to rename Brooklyn Park after a boy who died saving his sister from being hit by an oncoming car.
The park will be renamed “La’Darious Wylie Park of Brooklyn.”
On Tuesday, October 27, La’Darious pushed his sister, Sha’Vonta, out of the way of the car, though he was hit by the car in the process.
The day after he was hit, La’Darious died in the hospital, and his mother donated his organs to help other children to survive injury or illness.
The driver, Michelle Johnson, was charged with a felony hit and run. She did not explain her actions when she appeared in court and later posted bond.
