A 14-year-old girl has been charged with aggravated murder charges after killing her own father. The girl’s mother and other family members insist the teen she was trying to save her family from “years” of abuse.
“She is my hero; I wasn’t strong enough to get out and she helped me,” said Brandi Meadows, mother of Bresha Meadows, who is now facing murder charges after having killed her father, Jonathan Meadows.
Brandi had filed for a protective order years ago but dropped it, and she and her children had been living in fear of her husband for years.
“I am so sorry she had to go through this,” Brandi said Thursday. “She is my hero. She helped me; she helped all of us so we could have a better life.”
Attorney Ian Friedman said that Bresha had faced years of abuse and had watched her mother and sisters being abused. She used the same gun that her father often threatened them with to kill him.
“Using that gun around the house, to intimidate, everyone in the home was terrified,” Friedman said.
Juvenile prosecutor Stanley Elkins said that the police are still investigating the incident.
“We want to get at the truth and see that justice is served,” Elkins said. “Anybody who has any information or reports should contact Warren Police.”
