Republican Senator: Obama is acting ‘like the drug dealer in chief’
A Republican senator from Illinois is under fire for racially-charged statements made about President Barack Obama related to the recent reports that Iran received $400 million in cash just before the January release of four American hostages.
Senator Mark Kirk told the State Journal-Register in relation to the deal that “we can’t have the president of the United States acting like the drug dealer in chief… Giving clean packs of money to a… state sponsor of terror.”

When asked to clarify the “drug dealer” remarks, Kirk’s campaign manager, Kevin Artl, doubled down, referring to “pallets of cash” in relation to the Iran deal.
Kirk is currently campaigning against Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) to retain his Senate seat. Duckworth’s campaign spokesman Matt McGrath released a statement characterizing their opponents comments as “misguided and deeply offensive, and beneath the dignity of the office he holds. He should apologize.”
