‘This is why black girls are angry’: Solange harassed by group of white women

Solange Knowles was harassed by a group of white women at a concert on Friday all because she decided to dance along with the music. And not surprisingly, she wasn’t happy about it, so she took to Twitter to vent her frustration.

According to her, a group of white women in the audience told her to sit down during the concert, and when she refused, they allegedly threw a lime at her back.

“Let me tell you about why black girls / women are so angry,” she said in the first tweet.

“I took my son, his friend, and my husband to see Kraftwerk in New Orleans… Was very excited to dance and enjoy a band I love. We are 4 of about 20 black concert goers out 1500 here. 4 out of maaaybbe 20 out of 1500.

“We walk in, and one of my favorite songs, Machine, is on. I’m excited to tell my son about how hip hop sampled Kraftwerk. We are dancing. 4 older white women yell to me from behind, ‘Sit down now.’ I tell them I’m dancing at a concert. They yell, ‘u need to sit down now.'”

Knowles does not say if she was the only one standing or if the majority of the audience was also standing.

“We are at an ELECTRONIC and DANCE music concert and you are telling…not asking me…to sit down. In front of my child. They proceed to throw something at my back,” she tweeted.

“But in this moment, I’m just going to share my experience… So that maybe someone will understand, why many of us don’t feel safe……in many white spaces.”

Some Twitter followers suggested that maybe she should have just sat down because there was a chance that the incident had nothing to do with race and more to do with those women wanting to get their money’s worth out of the evening concert.

Knowles did not take these comments well. “We don’t ‘bring the drama,'” she stated. “Nobody goes to the Kraftwerk show with their kid ‘looking for drama.’ But that’s how u guys like to spin this. Now back to me & my husbands favorite song.”
