On Oct. 14, in select theaters, the first Maya Angelou documentary, And Still I Rise, will be released.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, won the Audience Award at the AFI Docs, and enjoyed a successful one-theater release in Chicago.

The documentary tells Angelou’s story through home video, archival footage, narration, interviews and other footage that allows the late poet and civil rights activist to tell her story in her own words. The title comes from her third volume of poetry and takes its name from one of her most influential poems in that work.

The documentary hits theaters in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco next weekend.
