Arizona students bring swastika cupcakes to Jewish teen’s birthday party
A Jewish girl in Arizona had her birthday party ruined when several of her classmates brought cupcakes with icing swastikas on them as a “joke.”
According to KPNX, the girl’s mother posted about the incident on Facebook and said that the teens likely knew what the symbol meant because they had just had a lesson on the Holocaust. The mother said the party goers did it to “be funny” and have since apologized.
“When you joke with symbols like the swastika you begin to normalize them and make it very casual within our society,” Arizona Anti-Defamation League Director Carlos Galindo-Elvira told KPNX.
